Enemy Lines

Theme for June: Unity
Scripture Verse:
"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them together in perfect unity." Col. 3:14
Mom's Musing:
Memorial Day reminds us of loyalty to country. Loyalty in relationships and affiliations increases unity within the nucleus of any group. I had heard about an incident a few years ago where a young person decided to quit playing for a youth sports team. After quitting he threatened his former teammates, "I'm keeping the playbook and giving it to another team." This created quite a stir among the players. The other kids on the team felt angry, deserted and betrayed. The coach caught wind of the threat and confiscated the manual.  Taking  information and giving it to someone outside the accepted circle is like going behind enemy lines.

Parenting Tip:
Loyalty is spurred on by love yet it is a quality that needs training. Talk with your kids about how to build up  family unity by functioning like a team. Family loyalty builds family unity. All for one and one for all!

Shabby Chic

Theme for June: Unity
Scripture Verse:
"Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined,
and every city or household divided against itself will not stand"
Matthew 12:25b

Mom's Musing:
Doing a project with another person can either unify or divide the participants. When my daughter came home from college, we tackled a task together. We shared the job of painting furniture. Her bedroom set (previously mine as a child) was transformed from princess style, white and gold to shabby chic, silver and black. Working, laughing and enjoying each other's company was great fun! Treasured time in the garage with black paint smeared on our faces will be a memory that brings a smile.

Parenting Tip:
Keep your perspective when working on a home project with your child. Remember enjoying the time together is even more important than the final product. Let it be a memory building experience-in a good way!
